Mnogo distribucije imaju LXDE kao opciju za željeno grafičko okruženje a neki među njima su Debian, Ubuntu i Fedora. LXDE je pod GPL licencom i u doba kada GNOME projekat vrši velike promjene te KDE "košta" resurse, ovo simpatično okruženje se hrabro uzdiže i predstavlja odličnu alternativu za korisnike koji žele vizuelno lijepo okruženje a da je ujedno funkcionalno i brzo. Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment ili skraćeno LXDE je veoma brzo grafičko okruženje sa malom potrošnjom energije. Održava i razvija ga planetarna zajednica programera te dolazi sa simpatičnim interfejsom, višejezičnom podrškom te standardnim prečicama na tastaturi.LXDE troši manje procesorske i RAM memorije nego ostala grafička okruženja. Specijalno je dizajniran za računare sa slabijim hardverskim komponentama kao što su mobilni telefoni ili stariji računari.
